Developer API Acceptable Use Policy

1. Introduction

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") governs the use of the Spronet Developer API, including but not limited to the Headless Storefront API, the Product Catalog API, and any other programmatic interface provided by Spronet Nig Ltd ("Spronet", "we", "us", or "our").

By generating an API key, accessing any Spronet API endpoint, or integrating Spronet data into a third-party application or website, you ("Developer", "you", or "your") agree to comply with this AUP in addition to the Spronet Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy.

Spronet reserves the right to update this AUP at any time. Continued use of the API after changes are published constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

2. Scope

This AUP applies to all interactions with Spronet's APIs, including but not limited to:

  • Fetching product and service catalog data for display on external websites (Headless Storefront).
  • Creating, updating, or deleting product listings programmatically.
  • Retrieving store metadata, categories, and brand information.
  • Uploading product images and media assets via the API.
  • Any future API endpoints made available by Spronet.

3. API Key Management

3.1 Key Issuance

API keys are issued to registered Spronet Dealers with verified accounts. Each key is uniquely tied to a single Dealer Profile and may not be shared, transferred, or used on behalf of another entity.

3.2 Key Security

You are solely responsible for the security of your API key. You must:

  • Store API keys in secure, server-side environments. Never expose them in client-side JavaScript, public repositories, or browser-accessible code.
  • Rotate your API key immediately if you suspect it has been compromised.
  • Notify Spronet at support@spronet.ng if you believe unauthorized access has occurred.

3.3 Key Revocation

Spronet may revoke your API key at any time, without prior notice, if we determine that your usage violates this AUP, our Terms of Service, or applicable law.

4. Product Content Standards

The Spronet Developer API allows you to manage your product catalog and display it on your own website. While Spronet provides flexibility in how you present your catalog externally, all product data stored on Spronet's servers must comply with the following standards.

4.1 Product Moderation Tiers

Spronet employs a multi-tiered content moderation system. Every product stored on Spronet is assigned one of the following moderation statuses:

  • Active — The product meets Spronet's quality and compliance standards. It is visible on the Spronet Marketplace, your Spronet Dealer Profile, and your external website via the API.
  • Flagged — The product has been flagged by Spronet moderators for a quality or policy concern (e.g., poor image quality, incomplete description, formatting issues). Flagged products are hidden from the Spronet Marketplace but remain visible on your Spronet Dealer Profile and your external website via the API. You will receive a notification with the specific reason for the flag and guidance on how to resolve it.
  • Suspended (Global Takedown) — The product has been determined to violate Spronet's Terms of Service or applicable law. Suspended products are removed from all Spronet surfaces, including the Marketplace, your Dealer Profile, and the Developer API. Spronet will not serve suspended product data to any external integration.

4.2 Quality Flags

Products may be flagged for quality concerns including, but not limited to:

  • Blurry, watermarked, or misleading product images.
  • Incomplete, inaccurate, or copy-pasted product descriptions.
  • Incorrect pricing or misleading price representations.
  • Duplicate listings of the same product.
  • Miscategorised products or services.

Flagged products will continue to be served via the Developer API so as not to disrupt your external website. However, if a flag is not resolved within nine (9) days, the product may be automatically escalated to Suspended status.

4.3 Global Takedown (Suspension)

Products will be immediately suspended and removed from all Spronet services, including the Developer API, if they involve:

  • Illegal goods or substances under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
  • Weapons, ammunition, explosives, or related accessories.
  • Counterfeit goods or products that infringe intellectual property rights.
  • Stolen property or goods obtained through fraud.
  • Hazardous materials without proper certification and regulatory approval.
  • Human trafficking, exploitation, or any form of modern slavery.
  • Products promoting hate speech, violence, or discrimination.
  • Pharmaceutical products without NAFDAC registration or appropriate regulatory approval.
  • Any product or service that violates applicable sanctions or export control regulations.

Spronet is under no obligation to provide advance notice before issuing a Global Takedown. Repeated violations may result in permanent account termination.

5. Prohibited API Usage

You may not use the Spronet Developer API to:

  • Scrape, harvest, or systematically collect data from Spronet beyond your own catalog.
  • Access or attempt to access another Dealer's data, API keys, or account information.
  • Circumvent rate limits, authentication mechanisms, or security controls.
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Spronet platform or API.
  • Build a competing marketplace or product comparison service using Spronet data.
  • Redistribute, resell, or sublicense API access or Spronet data to third parties.
  • Use the API to facilitate fraud, money laundering, or any illegal activity.
  • Overwhelm Spronet's infrastructure with excessive requests (denial-of-service attacks).
  • Misrepresent Spronet's involvement in or endorsement of your external website or application.

6. Rate Limits & Fair Use

6.1 Standard Limits

The Spronet Developer API is subject to rate limits to ensure fair access and platform stability. Current limits are:

  • Read requests (GET): 100 requests per minute per API key.
  • Write requests (POST, PUT, DELETE): 30 requests per minute per API key.
  • Image uploads: 10 uploads per minute per API key, with a maximum file size of 5 MB per image.

These limits may be adjusted at Spronet's discretion. If your integration requires higher throughput, please contact us at developers@spronet.ng to discuss enterprise arrangements.

6.2 Caching

Developers are encouraged to implement client-side caching to minimise API calls. Product catalog data may be cached for up to 15 minutes. Store metadata may be cached for up to 1 hour. Real-time accuracy of pricing and stock information is your responsibility if you implement caching.

7. Data Usage & Privacy

7.1 Data Ownership

Product data that you upload to Spronet remains your intellectual property. However, by using the Spronet platform and API, you grant Spronet a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, process, display, and distribute your product data across the Spronet Marketplace, Dealer Profiles, and any Spronet marketing channels, as outlined in our Terms of Service.

7.2 Buyer Data

The Developer API does not expose any personally identifiable information (PII) of Spronet Buyers. You may not use the API to attempt to identify, track, or profile individual Buyers.

7.3 NDPR Compliance

All data processing related to the Spronet API must comply with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) and any successor legislation. You are responsible for ensuring your own website's compliance with applicable data protection laws.

8. Attribution & Branding

8.1 Spronet Attribution

If you display products sourced from Spronet on your external website, you are encouraged (but not required) to include a "Powered by Spronet" attribution link. If you choose to include attribution, you may use the official Spronet badge assets provided in our developer documentation.

8.2 Trademark Usage

You may not use Spronet's name, logo, or trademarks in any way that implies endorsement, partnership, or affiliation beyond the scope of the API integration without prior written consent from Spronet.

9. Enforcement & Consequences

Spronet actively monitors API usage for compliance with this AUP. Violations may result in one or more of the following actions, at Spronet's sole discretion:

  • Warning: A written notification detailing the violation and required corrective action.
  • Rate Limit Reduction: Temporary or permanent reduction of your API rate limits.
  • API Key Revocation: Immediate revocation of your API key, disabling all programmatic access.
  • Product Suspension: Immediate Global Takedown of offending products from all Spronet surfaces and the API.
  • Account Termination: Permanent termination of your Spronet Dealer account, including loss of access to the Marketplace, Dealer Profile, and all associated data.
  • Legal Action: Referral to law enforcement or initiation of civil proceedings where violations involve illegal activity or significant harm.

Spronet is not required to provide advance notice before taking enforcement action in cases involving illegal content, security threats, or imminent harm.

10. Disclaimer & Limitation of Liability

The Spronet Developer API is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. Spronet makes no warranties, express or implied, regarding the API's availability, accuracy, reliability, or fitness for a particular purpose.

Spronet shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages arising from your use of the API, including but not limited to loss of revenue, data, or business opportunities, even if Spronet has been advised of the possibility of such damages.

You are solely responsible for the content displayed on your external website. Spronet is not liable for any claims, disputes, or legal actions arising from products displayed on your website via the Developer API, including products with a "Flagged" moderation status.

11. Changes to This Policy

Spronet reserves the right to modify this Acceptable Use Policy at any time. Material changes will be communicated via email to the address associated with your Dealer account and/or through a notice on the Spronet Developer Documentation pages. Your continued use of the API after such notification constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
